For the Love of Louboutin

Louboutin Spring/Summer 2011

I have to admit one of my major fashion addictions is Christian Louboutin shoes. There is something about the design and the sexy red soles that are extremely hard to resist, I also believe they are almost collector pieces as they may be for a specific season but you can seem to wear them season after season still. Here are some of my wish list pieces for Spring Summer 2011.

1…N°Prive 120mm $1695 US. This stunning multicoloured painted python classic Prive with a 4″ heel and 1″front platform will truly make a statement with anything you are wearing and in my opinion is a true work of art for the foot. Plus that front platform makes them comfortable for a night out on the town.

2…Loubout 100mm $895 US. The shootie is still here! This is a stunning silver cotton canvass corseted shoe boot that has a stunning utility look that will look amazing with all the spring trends coming up, and the 4″ heel makes it super sexy.

3…N°Prive 120mm $795 US. These stunning tie dye leather classic Prive’s in grey and black with the 4″ heel and 1″ platform are right on trend with the tie dye theme and are truly to die for.

4…Boulima 160mm $1125 US. This is the highest heel that Louboutin can make and when worn all eyes will be on you. Pair it with anything this silver cab chain link toe in Karung snakeskin will make any outfit that much better. The 5″ heel and 1.5″ platform is just incredible.

5…Miss Cristo 140mm $595 US. These 5.5″ cork wedges are light as air and right on trend with the 70′s influences in many of the spring collections. They come in both black and cognac and are a perfect mix of bows and bondage, who could ask for anything more?

6…Ecotrash 150mm $1095 US. This is a Louboutin Boutique Exclusive! Now being eco-conscious is sexy with a 4″ heel and 1.5″ front platform. These are definitely collectors items as each shoe with it’s mix of cork, canvass and PVC will vary in trash and no pair will be the same.

7…Miss Marta 150mm $1295 US. A truly sexy mix of fishnet and suede in a perfect shootie for spring/summer and can even be worn now with tights. It has a 4″ heel and 1.5″ front platform. These are definitely on my wish list as I feel they will last me for seasons to come.

8…Une Plume 140mm $595 US. Another fabulous pair of light as air 5.5″ cork wedges that are a Christian Louboutin Boutique Exclusive! These stunning patent leather ones add a happy brightness for spring in the framboise. They are also available in black patent.

9…Fred Flat $595 US. The classic Louboutin lace-up is back with a new twist! Swathed in multicolour glitter they are a great way to dress up any old outfit for the day.

Be sure to check out the Louboutin site to see the other styles as this is truly a wonderful Louboutin season!

CB2 Canada Update…

It looks like there are some delays on the CB2 opening in Toronto. They are now stating Summer 2011 as the time they will be opening their doors on the the SE corner of Bathurst and Queen West. The good news is we don’t need to wait to start buying our favourite CB2 items…they now have an option on their site to shop in Canadian dollars and the prices we see in Cdn even include duties so there is no horrible surprise at the checkout….AMAZING!!! So shop away online while we wait for this eagerly anticipated opening! I know I will be as I can’t wait to get some of my favourite pieces till the summer.

Carine Roitfeld is Leaving Vogue Paris

It is true and official, the incredible and iconic editor of Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld is leaving her post as Editor in Chief. Her last issue will be the March issue. I have to say they are definitely going to be big shoes to fill at Vogue Paris as Carine’s work is iconic and has an incredible reputation, so far no successor has been named, nor has Carine informed the public of her future endeavors or where she plans to go….I thought I would post some shots of Carine’swork. She has always been an inspiration to me in my own styling career.

Films & Fashion

Black Swan

One of the most anticipated movies of the season was definitely The Black Swan starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis. This dark and twisted look into the ballet world has won rave reviews for the amazing performance of Natalie Portman as Nina as well as Mila Kunis in the supporting role of Lilly, the dancer trying to steal Nina’s dream role of the Swan Queen in Swan Lake. Not only is the the film incredible, but the fashion is truly to die for…the ballet costumes were designed by Rodarte and are absolutely stunning. This movie is a definite must see if you haven’t seen it yet as there is already a great deal of Oscar buzz being thrown around since it’s debut at TIFF this past fall.

The combination of the acting along with the costumes and make-up really make this dark movie incredible. One of my favourites in a long time, and definitely one that will remain iconic and memorable.

Here are some stills from the film showing the great fashions and make-up:

Fabulous Fashion Books

It is getting close to that time of year again where the holiday gift giving begins, so I thought I would include one of my biggest gift obsessions that I love to receive….books on Fashion. Here are a few I am coveting, and a few that I have recently added to my collection:

Alexander McQueen: Genius of A Generation

by Krisin Knox

Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation

This book is a tribute to Alexander McQueen’s (1969-2010) life and his incredible style genius. Iconic images from his collections and shows are included in the book. I picked it up for myself and all I can say is “wow”. His genius in fashion was unreal and for those who are creative, it is truly inspirational ($34).

Kate Moss by Mario Testino

Kate Moss by Mario Testino

This book is absolutely unreal, for anyone that is a Kate Moss fan, the 100 plus photos in the book of her history with Mario Testino is amazing. It is a book I am truly coveting, but the expensive price tag and extremely and I mean extremely limited number (1,500 in the whole world) of copies available make it a very special gift ($800), each copy is numbered and signed by Testino.

Emilio Pucci

by Vanessa Friedman

The many covers of Emilio Pucci

This book follows the career of Emilio Pucci and his prints and legacy within the fashion industry. What makes this book even more exciting…there are 10,000 copies only in the world and each one is uniquely bound with fabric from some of the most recent Pucci prints, so not all the covers are the same, definitely a collectors piece ($210).

P.S. I Made This: I See It. I Like It. I Make It.

by Erica Domesek

P.S. I Made This

This is a great book, where Erica Domesek looks at runway and designer pieces and then makes versions herself at a fraction of the cost to get a similar look. Truly a must for the crafty fashion lover ($23).

These are just a sampling of books that would be great holiday gifts to any fashion lover, with a few of them true collectors pieces, and my best tip for saving a little money on them, try and order online, Chapters/Indigo and Amazon all offer discounts off of the actual price and there is often free shipping as well, can’t really go wrong with that.

On Location

OTM Winter Issue Shoot

This past Monday, I had the opportunity to work with Off The Map  Webzine and shoot an editorial for their winter issue with an amazing model from Nicole from Spot 6 Management, who just recently walked in the Chanel show, Cory Vanderploeg taking the photos and Liz Robertson from Ford Artists doing the makeup and hair.

There was wardrobe from Pink Tartan, Izma, Vawk, Symthe, Erin Kleinberg, American Apparel, Club Monaco, Jonathan + Olivia, as well as some amazing vintage from The Cat’s Meow including vintage Chanel!!!

Here are a few behind the scenes shots from shooting on location in Hamilton.

wardrobe – working out of the back of the truck

Location shoots: not the most glamorous for wardrobe stylists or the models. Our wardrobe room is the car for the clothes, shoes and accessories as well as the change room, especially when it was as cold as it was this past Monday…Canada Goose weather all the way.

Shooting

Wardrobe

Some of the fabulous wardrobe all organized and getting ready to be packed up and returned to the designers and stores.

As one can see it is not always very glamorous shooting editorials. It was a long and cold day in Hamilton, but I can definitely say it was worth it…the images are incredible. The issue of OTM will be coming out December 15th. I will post a link along with the editorial so the final images can be viewed. Tara and Aimee are two brilliant editors and Nicole and Liz made the day worthwhile, and I say Nicole was definitely a trooper and a supermodel in the making on set considering how long we shot and how cold it was.

Loving All Things Leopard

So one of the hottest trends this season is definitely leopard. It is everywhere and what I love most about it, is not only is it sexy and very now. It is also a classic, so if you find a fabulous piece you know it will remain a timeless staple in your wardrobe. One word of caution….please don’t do head-to-toe leopard, not good! But what is great is to incorporate one piece into your wardrobe. I have included some amazing pieces at different price points etc that I love and I am sure you will too.

Faux Fur Vintage Coat: Topshop

This faux fur vintage coat can be found at Topshop for $190 US, it is a great piece and not too expensive, and Topshop now delivers to Canada.

Christian Louboutin Lady Derby: Davids

These are absolutely stunning pony hair Christian Louboutin Lady Derby peep toe oxfords with a 5.5″ heel. They are definitely an investment piece at $1395.00, but in my opinion, well worth it, they are a classic shoe addition that you can wear for many years to come. You can find them at Davids. I love them with the skinny cargo trend as well as a great dress.

Wolford Leo Tights

These Wolford tights are a really fun way to add leopard to your wardrobe, and at $65 US definitely not that big of an expense. The statement tight has really started coming into it’s own. You can find these at any better boutique that sells Wolford or at a Wolford store.

Brave Helki Belt

This amazing belt by Brave Leather Beltworks, is truly a classic piece that can update a beautiful pencil skirt and is very work appropriate and also very affordable at $90 Cdn.

Emily Leopard Clutch: Club Monaco

Club Monaco has been really been catching my eye recently with their amazing products and their collaboration with Shopbop. This leopard clutch is amazing. It has enough room to hold all your stuff for the evening and it is chic and sexy. Who could ask for more…oh yeah, it is also under $200 Cdn!

Jenny Bird Leopard Grommet Pouchette

Definitely one of my favorite Canadian accessory designers, Jenny Bird has done it again with her leopard pieces. This pouchette is fabulous, it is small enough that it makes sense for evening, but it has the strap so you can remain hands free, and not bad at $225 US. She is definitely a designer you want to keep you eye out for. The pieces all have a bit of an edge and I can tell you, every piece I own, I get stopped by people, they are that great.

Jenny Bird Large Leather Wrap Bracelet

Again, another piece by Jenny Bird. I love the edginess of this piece and I find it is great for day and night. This one is on sale for half price on her website, so if you like it you better hurry before it sells out.

As you can see there are tons of leopard options out there. These are just some of my favorites. Have fun with it, and if you feel too timid to incorporate it into your wardrobe in a bold way, try the skinny leather belt or some great leopard print lingerie, I guarantee you will feel great wearing it.
